  • Betfair broken and customers' credit card details lost

I just came across a thread on a site called reddit.com. The title of the thread is "What disgusting secrets does your employer keep from its customers?"

    Here is an interesting reply:

I worked at Betfair.com, a British gambling company that received two Queens Award for Enterprise, it operates the world only decent sports betting exchange. We lost all of our customer's credit card details and didn't tell them. Our exchange was broken by a rogue programmer who managed to bypass all the account balance checks and bet millions on a horse race a while ago. We intentionally, illegally misled the Maltese gambling regulator about the nature of the gaming products we ran from there and profited massively from it, to the tune of £20m a year to the detriment of customers.

It's an anonymous post but interesting nonetheless.

Other relevant posts in the thread:

The horse thing was in the betting industry news, the cause wasn't though.
to be fair, he wasn't trying to circumvent the system, his bot went mental and found a 1-in-a-100000000000000 weakness in the exchange. the whole thing was overblown and made worse by the farcical way the company dealt with it.

I bet it was that bot that laid Voller la vedette at 29/1 but yet got away without having to pay anyone,I reckon it was Betfairs X-matching bot...

If you are wondering, this is the deleted post in the thread that the original poster replied to. It's not really relevant or interesting.

how long ago was this? obviously i'm not expecting any quotes or details about yourself, but if you PM me with a bit more detail it'll be a great help for some research.
