  • Increasing performance

    Hi all,

    Was just thinking the other day how much of trading is effected by how you are feeling physically? Im sure were all aware that in order to be a profitable trader its important to be in the right state of mind but after a poorer result yesterday it come to my attention i was trading a little tiered and it was likely this could of been part of it... it made me think of a certain someones blog that suggests its important to stay hydrated, but how far do you go?? I googled a few things and am going to try them out today to see if it works. A few im gonna try..

    1. Take regular breaks (every 30 mins)
    2. Regulate breathing, relax (aids focus apparently)
    3. Close down any possible distrations (silent room)
    4. Correct lighting
    5. Exercise (went for a run this morning)
    6. Stay hydrated (200ml hour)
    7. 8 hours sleep (done)
    8. Remove caffine and stimulants (avoids peaks and lows)

    Other thing i found that are more long term but interesting is you are likely to increase your own mental endurance and focus from things like sudoku and brain trainning exercises... might be a thought

    If anyone's got anything else please add

    I don't have any ideas like to to add but I would say that an important part of things if being able to judge when you are sharp and when you arent which isnt always as easy as you think. Often its only after a few races when you start to realise you're nowhere near your best and there are occassions (at least for me) when I'd be better off not trading at all or at least waiting until I am actually sharp enough again. Something that I do is to play a very simple online pool game against the clock before trading - I know what my normal kind of score is and if I dont make it or I can see that Im struggling to do well at that then I delay starting trading until I'm right or can do things like drink loads of water etc to get myself right or my p+l can suffer

      One to add to your list - heat / temperature control.

      I can remember AH moaning about the heat in the summer (So he went and got an AC unit).

      It's only October 2nd but already the temperature has dropped, so heating becomes an issue for the long winter ahead.

      You could always get yourself a nice Camo Slanket

        Wish I could, but unfortunately Mrs Geek would be a tad upset if I closed down the kids.

              BTW for those who have joined us in more recent times, Jibiko is our resident entertainer who's been having a forum break. { New Girlfriend perhaps Jib? My own honeymoon periods lasted abut three months from memory. }

              Take anything he says as friendly Banter. { Even the stuff you don't quite understand. }

                I actually think thats bloody good advice he's given, we'd all be better traders if we did just shut the f*ck up stop moaning and just get on with it

                  I thought is was funny, but as chuck only joined us a short while before Jibs went walkabout I didn't want him to take it the wrong way, as he started a serious topic, then jibiko & I came along.

                    kawasaki's method

                    Dear chuck536,
                    Another method that you can try, is the famous...

                    kawasaki's method

                    Rule 1: Win or Lose, Drink More Booze.
                    Rule 2: Follow Rule 1.

                    I think, Temujin, will agree with the positive expectation that the above method has,
                    to the increasing of the performance of a trader.

                    p.s.1. The S&S Tactic, is a method I use, just before every trading session* and
                    I have found that it increases my performance.
                    (* trading session, what a cool and scientific and pro description, yeah baby yeah).

                    p.s.2. I am not an entertainer, although I don't have a problem with this title.

                              I think, the following threads, from Tradepedia, maybe relevant and can give some ideas, also.

                              - Tradepedia>Dedication>Mind & Body - (healthy mind + healthy body = wealthy trading?)

                              - Tradepedia>Relaxation>Meditation to enhance mindset
