    Dynamic Meditation

Dynamic Meditation lasts one hour and is in five stages. It can be done alone, and will be even more powerful if it is done with others. It is an individual experience so you should remain oblivious of others around you and keep your eyes closed throughout, preferably using a blindfold. It is best to have an empty stomach and wear loose, comfortable clothing.

“This is a meditation in which you have to be continuously alert, conscious, aware, whatsoever you do. Remain a witness. Don’t get lost. While you are breathing you can forget. You can become one with the breathing so much that you can forget the witness. But then you miss the point.

“Breathe as fast as possible, as deep as possible; bring your total energy to it but still remain a witness. Observe what is happening as if you are just a spectator, as if the whole thing is happening to somebody else, as if the whole thing is happening in the body and the consciousness is just centered and looking.

“This witnessing has to be carried in all the three steps. And when everything stops, and in the fourth step you have become completely inactive, frozen, then this alertness will come to its peak.” Osho

    First Stage: 10 minutes

Breathe chaotically through the nose, concentrating always on exhalation. The body will take care of the inhalation. The breath should move deeply into the lungs. Be as fast as you can in your breathing, making sure the breathing stays deep. Do this as fast and as hard as you possibly can – and then a little harder, until you literally become the breathing. Use your natural body movements to help you to build up your energy. Feel it building up, but don’t let go during the first stage.

    Demo

    Second Stage: 10 minutes

Explode! Express everything that needs to be thrown out. Go totally mad. Scream, shout, cry, jump, shake, dance, sing, laugh; throw yourself around. Hold nothing back; keep your whole body moving. A little acting often helps to get you started. Never allow your mind to interfere with what is happening. Be total, be whole hearted.

    Demo

    Third Stage: 10 minutes

With raised arms, jump up and down shouting the mantra, “Hoo! Hoo! Hoo!” as deeply as possible. Each time you land, on the flats of your feet, let the sound hammer deep into the sex center. Give all you have; exhaust yourself totally.

    Demo third and fourth stages.

    Fourth Stage: 15 minutes

Stop! Freeze wherever you are, in whatever position you find yourself. Don’t arrange the body in any way. A cough, a movement – anything will dissipate the energy flow and the effort will be lost. Be a witness to everything that is happening to you.

    Fifth Stage: 15 minutes

Celebrate through dance, expressing your gratitude towards the whole. Carry your happiness with you throughout the day.

    Demo

If where you meditate prevents you from making a noise, you can do this silent alternative: Rather than throwing out the sounds, let the catharsis in the second stage take place entirely through bodily movements. In the third stage, the sound “Hoo” can be hammered silently inside.

I've always found these techniques interesting to read about. This is the first time I have read about dynamic meditation, seems much more physical than what I had read about previously.

Increasing our awareness is key to improving ourselves, and even Mr Heathcote has left us with a little information on his efforts in breathing and awareness techniques mentioned on his self development site.

I'm curious, although perhaps not specifically through dynamic mediation, are there any traders on this forum that use meditation/breathing techniques? Would be good to hear from you and your opinions on the techniques available.

I have not specifically set out to use meditation, but have calmed myself down on a couple of occasions through sitting still and breathing deeply. I think this is something most traders would do naturally if they have the discipline to sit still in the first place. I haven't ventured into using more significant stakes yet but I can foresee this becoming more useful when handling larger and more significant amounts of money.

    Any thoughts?

        revisited

        the power of the fluid

Be like water making its way through cracks.
Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object,
and you shall find a way round or through it.
If nothing within you stays rigid,
        outward things will disclose themselves.

        Empty your mind, be formless.
        Shapeless, like water.
If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup.
You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle.
You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot.
Now, water can flow or it can crash.
        Be water my friend.

Well i posted the above just to see what happens really, it is not something that i currently use or know much about, i have been hearing good things about meditation and am doing a bit of research on it,

the thing that draws me to it is the awarness part and also the improvement of your overall wellbeing, even the NHS are getting in on the act and using it to treat depression!

So many times at the end of a trading sesh, i have felt mentally totally in the groove and in a different place from when i began but then there have been no more races to trade,

i reckon that is my awarness becoming more acute over the time that i have been trading that day,

if i can do some meditation to heighten my awarness before i start to trade to take it to the levels i feel at the end of trading then that must be a good thing.

I know Adam Heathcote practises yoga, i can't remember the exact name but it is a form of yoga that is practiced in a hot enviroment so your body can stretch more than it would in a colder enviroment,

that too is something i want to look into and is indeed linked to meditation.

The thing i am realising now is that it is a huge subject and encompasses so many religous, non-religous, cultures and such that it is like that old saying:

"The more i find out, the less i know!"

Don't think. FEEL. It is like a finger pointing away to the moon. Do not concentrate on the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory.

One form of meditation I came across some time ago.

THE ACTIVE MEDITATION OF THE KAHUNA

One meaning of Hakalau is, "To stare at as in meditation and to allow to spread out." If you've never tried it before, right now, this technique can be a real eye opener. Try it.

              1. Ho'ohaka: Just pick a spot on the wall to look at, preferably above eye level, so that your field of vision seems to bump up against your eyebrows, but the eyes are not so high so as to cut off the field of vision.
              2. Kuu: "To let go." As you stare at this spot, just let your mind go loose, and focus all of your attention on the spot.
              3. Lau: "To spread out." Notice that within a matter of moments, your vision begins to spread out, and you see more in the peripheral than you do in the central part of your vision.
              4. Hakalau: Now, pay attention to the peripheral. In fact, pay more attention to the peripheral than to the central part of your vision.
              5. Ho'okohi: Stay in this state for as long as you can. Notice how it feels. Notice the ecstatic feelings that begin to come to you as you continue the state.

(Notice that this description is almost the same as Patanjali's description in the Yoga Sutras of Dharana, Dhyana, and Samadhi leading to Samyama.)

Hakalau is the means, then, in the Hawaiian system for entering a rapid trance state at will. In our Huna Intensives given in Hawaii, we suggest to the Haumana (students) that they use this technique inside and outside of class -- all the time -- until it becomes automatic. This is the state we are in as we go from place to place, walking, cycling, riding in a car, etc. And as you do it more and more, you will also find that it is impossible to hold a negative state in consciousness when you are in peripheral vision. Hakalau is also why some Shamans won't actually make eye contact with you, because it could interfere with the state. (Truthfully, if eye contact can interfere with your state then you need more practice with a qualified guide.)

The ability to enter a trance state rapidly, and at will is deepened by sitting in meditation and deepening the experience. The technique is practiced with the eyes closed, and adds some additional techniques to Hakalau.

Learning how to breathe in preparation for meditation is also important -- Ha breathing.

I think being in the right frame of mind is critical to trading. Anything that can help get you there faster must be worth a look. I think we naturally find our own ways. Some like music, some like quiet and own space. Personally I've had to learn in noise and chaos. When somebody speaks to me I don't even hear them any more!

It's great seeing a thread like this in relation to trading. Not enough people realise that it's you and your mindset that ultimately depends on your success or not.

When I first started to get into trading (financial and other forms of trading) I would read a lot of forums and posts by 'trading gurus' and a lot of the advice would come down to something Zen like. 'The trading is you...' And I would think ''The trading is you...' what the hell does that mean? How is that supposed to help me? Just tell me how you trade and I'll go do it and make loads of money...'

But the thing is, as you trade more and are less results orientated and more process orientated you begin to realise what they were talking about. They could have shown me exactly how they traded and the chances are I wouldn't have been able to make money like they do, and that's down to the approach I had.

So meditate away! Do anything that helps you focus and concentrate on what it is you're trying to accomplish.
