  • The Canadian Open 2013

If the Russian Open is populated by players largely unknown (to me, at any rate) then the Canadian Open is full of well known players - but the big names are pretty much absent.

The tournament takes place just outside Toronto, which means it's about 4/5 hours behind us in the UK. I hope, therefore, to be better able to trade in play.

I was impressed by Mahan in the Open, and also by Matsuyama so both of them make it into my straight dutch. Luke Donald and GMac give some UK interest and the 'older' golfer is represented by Mssrs Furyk, Els (again!) and a long shot on Vijay Singh. I'm not as familiar with Daniel Summerhays, but he's in good form and might well shorten in price.

    Any thoughts?

As the second round draws to a close I've lost a few to the projected -1 cut. Luke Donald, the perennial 'nearly man' and Daniel Summerhays look as if they are both out, whilst Vijay, my wildcard, is soldiering on. Gmac is a good few shots off the pace and Furyk too.

However, Hunter Mahan is toodling along very nicely. I have greened up on him, leaving me with near as damnit £32 green all over. All I need now is for Vijay and Jimbo to find some greens tomorrow as it would appear that Mr Matsuyama is currently going full speed ahead.... in reverse

What a good job I got out of Mahan when I did! His wife's gone into labour so he's withdrawn (I'll resist the obvious '9 months too late' joke). I've scoured the rools and think the trade will stand...

But there's something I don't quite get... Vijay is currently 3 off the lead with a beer in his hand and is available to back at 180...I know a) he's not the golfer he used to be and b) that at the time of writing the leaders have several holes of round 3 left.... but... surely that's worth a £2 of anyone's bank, isn't it?
