    • Well the bookies here are having a picnic. Last weekend saw three odds on "certainties" hit the deck and another decent sprinkling of outsiders lob.
So whilst we may have survived last week thats the third week in a row where bookmakers have got the chocolates. Hopefully today will be the turning point profit wise for the punters. Sydney racing has gone bush in the direction of Hawksbury where the Hawksbury Gold Cup and the Hawksbury Guineas will be the main races. At Caulfield its business as usual whilst Doomben will host the Group 2 WFA Victory Stakes.
Lets hope we can turn the tide today.
Updates will be done as the meeetings progress, time permitting.!

      • Racing today in Sydney and Melbourne look to be fairly average races with no Group races scheduled. Best racing seems to be at the Gold Coast where Brisbane racing has been shunted off to.
Results in recent weeks have been poor as a raft of outsiders have saluted. Good for the bookies but not so for the poor punter has several good things have failed to salute. Lets hope that trend reverses today.

        • Some more rough results last week however we did manage to sneak in a profit thanks to a couple of outsiders. Solo Mission fendered off all challengers and paid $26 on Betfair and Man of his Word paid a similar price when he ran third at cricket score odds. Racing in Sydney has gone bush to Scone whilst some of the best quality races are to be found at Doomben and Morphettville.
So with a bit of variety out there today lets hope we can snare a profit. Will be keeping a weather eye on the southern states today as some unseasonal weather hit Tasmania yesterday and is heading north with heaps of rain carrying clouds.
Here are today's selections and time permitting updates will occur as the cards progress.

          • Some more rough results last week with the best being a 200/1 winner at Doomben. Today looks to be a reasonable betting day so lets hope that is the case. One of my old favourites in Man Of His Word goes around again today in the 650K Hardy Brothers Doomben Cup Group 1 race. Is currently around the $21 mark so despite the tough competition a little of my hard earned will be invested each way with a saver on Comin Through which got flattened last start as favourite in the Hollidale race at the Gold Coast. Its currently out to around $10 and thats inviting for me as its the top rated horse in the race.
Lets hope we can pick up a few nice winners today and as usual will try and keep updates flowing as the meetings progress.
            Good luck with your investments.

            • Nice to see Comin Through salute at the juicy $11 odds. Still an above average number of roughies getting the chocolates although it was'nt too bad last week. Perhaps today will see some normality return to our shores.
Best results are emerging from Brisbane racing at Doomben so hopefully that will continue on today as the good horse's compete for some nice prizemoney. Best race there today is the Kingsford-Smith Cup Group 1 race worth 750K to the lucky winner and placegetters.
Here are today's selections including an Australian Rules tip just for a change.

R5 no 3 Graff Late Scratching
R7 no 3 Care to Think...strong each way chance.
R8 no 1 Aloisia is the each way value bet.....obvious danger here is No 3 Youngstar. Won $4.50
              R9 no 8 Marsupial.....another each way chance.

              • Just when you think the run of outsiders has come to an end up pops a 400/1 winner at Geelong. Having its sixth only start in a race the despised outsider stormed home on Sunday to win comfortably.
Today's racing is at Rosehill and Moonee Valley however Brisbane continues to be plagued by track issues so racing there has been shunted off to the Sunshine Coast where they also raced yesterday.
Couple of my old favourites are racing today are going around in Man of His Word and Scarlett Hussie. Man of His Word was ridden upside down last start so forget that run and at $10 its an each way place chance. Scarlett Hussie is down in grade in its assignment at Gatton today. It opened up at $15 and $4.20 the place which is overs considering its past form and its track work has been outstanding. It needs clear racing room and despite the tricky turning track and the fact it will be worse than midfield in running I'll be having a little of my hard earned each way and hoping for a good result.!!
Last week I introduced an Australian Rules suggested bet just for a change of format and it resulted in a positive result. I'm hopeful of a repeat for this weeks selection.
Here are today's selections and as usual updates will occur throughtout the day.

                ROSEHILL:
                R1 no 9 Galina 4th
                R2 no 2 Gresham Won $3.50
                R8 no 7 Special Missile 4th
                R9 no 5 Ozark

                MOONEE VALLEY:

                • Nice to see a few lob at reasonable prices last week. One of my favourite horses to follow in Scarlett Hussie was the medium of a substantial plunge and whilst it was wayward in the straight it still had too much on what was a weak field. I noted that the owners of Scarlett also had a first starter in Tipping at the Gold Coast which was backed in from 50/1 to 14/1 and duly saluted. Tipping will be nominated for a city race next start so it goes into my little black book of horses to follow.
Racing in my home State of Queensland and in particular Brisbane is in trouble. The issue seems to be lack of vision particularly with infrastructure and unattractive levels of prizemoney in comparision with other States. We have had absolute duds in recent Racing Ministers and now the solution seems to be to introduce a Point of Consumption Tax of 15% which would make betting in Queensland simply uneconomical. Its noted that other States are considering the same POC tax but at a lesser rate of 8%. Once again the poor old punter is hit between the eyes with a new tax thats all take and no give from a punter's perspective. Little wonder more of the gambling dollar is being invested in pokies here these days (despite the fact that you will most likely lose).
Meanwhile venues like Eagle Farm and Albion Park langusih whilst the State Government twiddles its thumbs.
Enough of the rant, lets see if we can find some winners for you today.
They wont be updated throughout today as I will be away from the desktop.....should be done am tomorrow.
                  Here are todays selections:

                  • Back to back winning days are always welcome with a $38 return from the 17 win selections. Ducimus almost kicked the tin for a nice bonus when he flew home to be called the winner but alas he was beaten a nose in a deceptive three way photo. Star of the show was Santa Ana Lane who was 10th at the turn and came home with a wet sail to grab the chocolates by a length and half at generous odds. Have had a big opinion of this fellow for some time now and when he is fit as he demonstrated by his last start win at Morphettville in the Goodwood Group One race he can beat anything in this country imho in sprinting races around the six to seven furlongs mark. He started at $30 in the Goodwood so he has been a generous conveyance for the stable and the lucky owners. Needless to say he remains in the little black book.
Today racing in Brisbane switches to Ipswich and there are some good races of interest there. A couple from the little Black Book go around today in Tipping and Scarlett Hussie with Tipping being the value bet. Scarlett goes off to Kilcoy which is a tricky track that favours front runners and you need to be leading or no further back than a length at the turn to win here. That wont suit her and she meets her stablemate 4kgs worse than last start and the stablemate finished within three lengths of her and is better suited by the track.
Here are todays selections and all going well should have results up as the meetings progress.

                    ROSEHILL:

                    • Today looks like a minefield with a very heavy track at Randwick and some tricky fields. So we will go easy and try a find a winner amongst the fairly average lot that are going around today. No AFL footy bet today and unless the results turnaround quickly then we will abandon these. State of Origin rugby league is on tomorrow so we'll have a little dabble on this event.

                      • Morning all. Nice to see some results again last week helped along with Remember the Name saluting at the juicy odds of $16. There are a couple of black bookers running around today in Man of his Word and Tipping. The Man is stepping back in distance and unless he goes to the front and outstays them he doesnt have much hope in this race. Tipping will run well and at $8 is a reasonable each way bet.

                        • Last week saw us plummet from the penthouse to the outhouse. Results were riddled with outsiders and the bookies are still celebrating as they talk about what must have been one of the rare days when they are left with bulging bags. Unfortunately these days do occur so its a case of dust ourselves off and move on boldly to the next round.
Racing returns to all city venues today, weather is overcast in Brisbane and Melbourne and we do have a heavy track to contend with in Sydney but the good news is that the sun is shining.
Here are today's selections and time permitting updates will follow as the results are known.

                          • Winter has arrived here with a vengeance. Hard to jump out of the cot this morning and throw off two doonas as the temperature was single digits. Sydney and Melbourne trackworkers had to cope with zero temps and poor old Canberra trackworkers were exposed to temps around minus 6deg Celsius.
Some tough fields around today however we will do our best to pluck out some winners.
There a couple of black bookers running around today with Widgee Turf being one of the strongest chances.

Here are todays selections and as usual will try and update as the meetings progress.

                            • Morning all. Tough little period around at present with the advent of winter racing and the absence of the stars. Widgee Turf went down by a nose last start...had it won it would have a much better result. Not to worry we will do our best to find a few winners.
Talk around the traps that all the Corporates are going to set their markets at 140% for Brisbane racing and adopt a take it or leave it approach. This is seen as a protest againgst the 15% point of consumption that our greedy government in Queensland seeks to introduce from August 1st.
                              Here are todays selections.
Will try and update as the meetings progress subject to grandparent duty with three grandkids not getting in the way!!
Hope you back a winner or three.

                              • Morning all. Weather here is nice and sunny with a top temp expected around 25degrees. Yes I know its a tough life living in Queensland but some of us are happy to make the sacrifices!! Last week we managed to squeeze out a profit so lets hope we can repeat today. Next week the Queensland Government introduce a Point of Consumption tax on Queensland racing so it will be interesting to see if the rumoured boycott by the Corporates eventuates. Story is they set and forget their markets at 140% the win and 600% the place.
So here are todays selections and time permitting updates will occur as the meetings progress.
