Windows XP would be my Windows operating system of choice if I used the machine for trading only.
a light installation of it but with sp3, no doubt. Stable and fast.
or a lightweight version of a linux system with a vm running that same xp... no reboots ever needed even if MicroShite crashes (just an occasional virtual machine restart)
I use Win7 in my "all purpose" machine but would opt out for the 2nd option if I had a "trading only" machine.
If you just want to use your PC for trading there's no reason not to use XP.
But there's also no reason not to use 8, and if you want to use it for other things you might as well get the current OS as MS and other software providers will support it better.
In desktop mode running programs in windows 8 is pretty much the same as windows XP/Vista/7 anyway...
In ipad mode... well it takes a bit of getting used to, but you don't have to use that if you don't want to...
