  • Keeping notes

    Hi all,
    Just wondering do many keep notes about the markets?
    Not like Horse A traded really low or anything,more like personal trading notes such as ' I stayed in too long there or I got into the market too late,etc.
    I'm only a novice and I'm debating whether or not to write these down or would I be better just trying to keep mental notes as I know when I've done the wrong things.
    Do any seasoned traders recommend writing down notes and if so do they have suggestions for a handy way of referencing these?

    Thanks

    You learn from experience. My experience is that I do not read notes even if I make them.

      Hi N.,

      with each market type, I found notes useful in prompting ideas, reminding me of trading rules and working out optimum entry positions.

      I recorded each days trading in a minimal way (a dozen lines in a diary plus any specific brainwaves)

      Each to his own,

      cheers, MC

        I like to record my screen and then watch it over.
        It's pretty amazing what you can learn about yourself in the process.

        Besides that the only notes I make are about the numbers;
        Turnover, P&L, net ticks, commision paid & time spent.

          You need to put a lot of dedication and commitment, much more than in high school, write down your impressions may be a way to frame your trading style. Personally, I've never done but I might avoid repeating some mistakes.
          Indeed in these markets nothing is produced from nothing, the money is moved from side to side, and in the end the winner is who has the most discipline.
