There's a report on Betfair profits & shrinking share price on BBC news site today.

They must be jealous of the comparitively massive profits of
          Willy Hills , Ladbrokes, etc.

No wonder they get little competition, it's not worth the hassel of building up a exchange, big investment Corp's can make more money, elsewhere.

Big money appears for projects that have serious prospects of well above
market average returns. Exchanges don't fit the bill.........

Insib, the profits are unexciting for the size of the firm, thats partly why their share price is a lead ballon.

Online betting exchange Betfair reports a big rise in annual profits, but admits its revenue growth "could have been higher".

Well as a punter I am no fan of WH or Laddies and if you are correct it's sad day for the betting man. They are not bookmakers they are accountants and wouldn't lay you 200 quid without alarm bells ringing from John O'Groats to Lands End.

You can walk on to any racecourse in the United Kingdom and get 2 or 3 grand on in minutes you ask these people and they'll only lay you SP if time allows for them to use your money to lower the price at the course and make a guaranteed profit win or lose.

It's just a pity the small punter doesn't know or just doesn't care about that or they would have been out of business years ago.

I would love to see Betfair,Betdaq and another few exchanges take over the entire market and for the rest to go out of business

If they are to remain I'd like to see punters clubs start springing up in their hundreds, where the club places all bets for it's members and the individual winners can't be singled out by these would be bookies.

Yep. For the guys who are making this for years is easy because they got some capital out of this. I am trading from a few months and I will probably have a year or two to make something. They will 100% rise and normal premium charge it is a matter of time. I will surely have to be perfect just because i started trading too late. Betfair will kill us all - poor will stay poor don't worry. When they clean up the mess from the Highrollers - they will become highrollers themselves and will start to make the liquidity by their own on the markets getting the esential. CAPITALISM. So I will have to Be perfect or die trying . Another solution is to start learning POKER right now!

Can't you get a new identity and start all over when you're about to hit PC?

with £250,000 that should be quite easy...

Even without a new identity, friends and family opening accounts and making £250k each should be able to get you up to £5,000,000 or so fairly easily...
If you want more luck... Take more chances!

This will work for a while. Until they make it to offset the whole family. And Until they disable multiaccounting just to be :Kerching:Kerching

Then, I imagine, there's a risk of Betfair detecting similar betting patterns and banning you & keeping all of your money. But if you don't depend on a large bank to be a successful trader then you should be fine.
