  • Call me naive, but I think Betfair's explanation is transparent and above board. If someone wants to launch this type of attack then they can - plenty of top companies suffer these types of events. I wouldn't be surprised if this goes on for days yet.

I got onto the API around 2pm. The 2pm race went in play but there was none or very little money traded. Since then it appears that pre-off markets are working but nothing in-play - including other sports such as the IPL cricket.

It may well be above board but the worrying thing is that they dont have a contingency for events such as this.

How can pre-off markets still work? The website is still unavailable for me and when trying to log in with the Toy I get the following error message: "The operation has timed out".

          • I've been able to log on to API since 2pm. Wouldn't work before that. Apparently some mobile bets have worked too though I could barely get a connection on my exchange app - the little I did get showed the 2.30 market was moving very slowly. The website is now back but nothing in-running, so clearly not getting much better.

                • A major cock up today!
Betfair clearly stated in one of their q and a's that if the site was inaccessible for some and not others it would be taken down altogether which clearly wasn't the case today. Late morning I was entering orders and timed out was coming up then I couldn't access my account to see if anything was matched and there were no green/red options showing as though no bets were matched then later bets were showing as being matched and settled! I understand you don't get refunded if bets are placed then the site goes down making it impossible to trade but when you have no idea bets have been matched then later on, 12.16 pm if I remember correctly, Betfair say they are being attacked, DDoS, yet settle bets when they were obviously, to them, suffering the attack earlier is a disgrace! Financially it wasn't too bad for me but that is beside the point and live chat was useless, the phonelines were down and there has been no reply to numerous emails and that makes the situation even worse!

Unfortunately they act like this all the time. They never take responsibility for anything, yet they gladly hold out their hands when it comes to collecting money. When they mismanage a market, when they replace their decent old API with an unstable new one, when their down, they always tell us that it wasn't their responsibility. Does it seem fair that after these **** ups you have to pay PC as usual? Of course not but the whole PC procedure is completely unfair in the first place. So get used to it. The irony is that I once received a gift package from them and still have a hoodie with a "Betfair - betting as it should be" print on it (or something similar). It always makes me cringe.
