  • Horses, Courses and resources

Hey one and all, may i firstly say this forum is an absolute wealth of knowledge and the geek is a credit to his profession by letting his software go out for free as he does.

My names Dan and ive only been trading for a few months(god sound like im at an AA meeting LOL)
Ive been betting though for a few years now and used to do lots of system betting on the horses and on the footy. My systems were doubling my bank every 9 months or so and i thought this is not the way forward for me and i delved in to the art of trading.

Just a quick point for those interested in horse racing systems on backing to win, a great system is as follows
Back horses that won last time out, within 9 days or less, aged 9 or less at the distance running and are male.
Youll get 2-3 sometimes more selections a day, it averages around 25% strike rate but also around 15-20% ROI.

Anyway back to trading, i have the toy, fantastic bit of kit and really starting to get used to it now. I mainly scalp pre race markets with about 5 mins to go, i take WOM to be highly favourable in the direction the swing is headed and that the swing is at the peak of resistance or support, ill lay or back to suit and try and go in around 3-4 ticks above or below. Sometimes of course though the swing goes against me and im always reluctant to exit 3 or 4 ticks in loss, but i will gain my discipline eventually.
My first question is, is there a stop loss function on the toy please??

i do scalp one ticks but i only tend to do this up til 10 mins pre race as the market will tend to massively fluctuate at this point and the loss scenario is too great for me.

on footy i have tried a few systems, lay the draw as everyone knows, backing 0-0 for a good 15 mins, backing unders for the same, backing 1-1 and using 0-0 as insurance and laying after a goal
i havent had enough experience in these systems though to know if they really succeed.
Second question then, does anyone use these systems? if so how profitabel are they for them, if not can you suggest any others??

Lastly, the biggest problem i find with trading is the psycology of it all, more than anything id like to meet up with fellow traders and exchange tips and learn a lot more so i thought a course would suit me to the ground, can anyone recommend anything decent please? This i really struggle with.

One last thing as ive dribbled on for long enough, who out there actually trades full time? and if you dont mind me asking did you start with a substantial bank or did you build it up over the years??

    Many thanks
    Dan

I think there are quite a few people who are asking for a stop loss, but, for me, the best stop loss is you.

I haven't used any of the football systems you mention, and generally steer clear of systems. Maybe someone else with more experience with trying these things can comment.

I actually do trade 'full time', even though I have other interests. As for bank size, the amount I started with a number of years ago was just a few hundred pounds and I built it up over a period of time. I would say now that it's still not that big as it doesn't need to be for what I do. More important for me was to have some financial security so I don't have to rely on making money from trading on a day-to-day basis.
