  • trading getting harder

Been trading for about 6 years now mainly on horses, and i picked it up pretty quick, done well then had to start paying premium charge, then 3 or 4 years ago i started using the toy which i thought was the dogs nuts and still do,anyway the last year trading horses i have seen a big drop in my profits,i still use the same method of scalping, doing what i think is right at a particular moment and so on,but it seems like the markets have changed behavior during daytime, they might not have and it might be me,its just that i cant put my finger on any one thing that has contributed to my profits dwindling,i mean i still make money but more on footy nowadays any replies appreciated

when i started trading, was learning trading dogs, several months. and now again this weeks im trying to remember if i still know how to do it properly. FOOKIN HELL. if i would seen this at my glorious career start, i would say **** it, i will be stripper better

well maybe not that bad. some days its like hell, some days easy cake. dunno what to say . monday and sunday was easy, today no matter what i do i barely strugling around zero, market behaviour definitely different than days before. well see tomorrow.

all in all i suppose, [especially after last years some countries ban] there is much less small fishes, who just grabs any bite you manage to put online at any silly price [eh good old days ] more smartarse survivors left, who have brains and grown up banks, much harder battles going on hier evil

watsup on footie? last year i was trading almost every evening, was pretty nice experience. this year tried couple matches, tried trading at half time, there was shitloads of moneys, but they just standing still, noone falling into my traps, time wasted

Basically I'd say its a combination of a few things hitting us at once,,the jockey's or jokies are crap and far from professional, many still dont know track biases and over exaggerate hold up or front running tactics....Time and time again
        Liquidity,,
Betfair bots or people with preferential treatment (Volle da Verte??)
I also believe that a new stream for fast pics has been available since March/April
More people with sense are put off by these factors leaving us gormless lads to fight against each other

I'd say liquidity is in decline, quite badly over the last 2 years... although official figures don't show it so much as the big fish are getting bigger. Manipulation is certainly on the up.... but Betfair don't care as more heavy stakes manipulation = more generated commission.

It doesnt help all they do is push the sports book instead of the exchange either (the very thing that put them in the positon they now are) .... but then the margins are bigger on the sportsbook so its easy to see why.

The Sportsbook is an absolute joke. I didn't last 5 minutes with them before they pulled up the drawbridge. Difficult times all round at the moment, have a gander at this article from Stephen Harris. Don't agree with all of it but it captures the gist of the current situation.

Not that experienced to compare difficuly level of trading before and now,but I am sure that sooner or later Betfair should reach new "golden age".Just think of all now unregulated markets with strong gambling tradition(China,Japan,) not to mention S.America,Raising Africa, there will be certainly in some point of time need for Global betting exchange, but first they need to deal with regulations and getting licenses, and then I am really not sure why would anyone use some other bookmaker instead of Betfair or some new global betting exchange, offcourse other bookmakers are doing great job now to push betfair down with their lobbies, some of them have recorded profits like bet365,but I am certain that they cannot go against simply better product which betfair is,but betfair has weak menagment, they should be extremly agressive in marketing and getting licenses because profits can be tremendous, and there are 95% or more of recreational bettors who doesent even know of exchange model,I just look for bettors in my country and how suprised are they when I say to them that they can act as bookmakers with lay bets,so I am optimist despite strong lobbies, and current bad condition, that they in such globalised world cannot push betfair forever, offcourse menagment should do their job much better.

A lot of the Asian countries gambling is illegal and I doubt will change any time soon and therefore is underground gambling, so although the Chinese love gambling, there is not going to be any change there soon.

Absolutely agree. It might be 5 or 10 years before something changes in USA or Asia, so it's better deal with what you have than expect better times soon, really doubt it that anything will change soon. Try to remember how it was with Ladbrokes, everyone was cheering and happy, competition for Betfair, good times coming, and what changed? Everyone is still trading in Betfair like nothing happened

I go through different periods on different sports where certain strategies of mine simply cease working. I suspect a lot are down to decreased liquidity which squeezes my margins more. One mistake - which previously could quickly be rectified - can be more costly. And on other sports, it just means I get less and less matched. For instance, my tennis turnover and profits - although I have reined in some of my turnover to prevent previous mistakes - is at just 10 percent of what it was a little over a year ago.

There is still plenty of money to be won in the game. Adapt and survive. Yes, it is tougher, but I am still making same profits in pre-race horses, so it is possible

Asia is already changing and the casinos in Laos and Cambodia are thriving as rich Chinese and Thai gamblers make these the venues of choice. It's only a matter of time before the other countries will try to keep the gambled money for themselves and allow all types of gambling to be legalised. One big difference between Asia and Europe is that while gambling is universal the infrastructure in the form of technology Europeans take for granted is not. I wouldn't mind betting that the Orient will become the centre for Internet gambling within a few years but it will be necessary for those who presently control gambling there to become more ambitious. I cannot think of Bangkok without picturing the Thai Mafioso sitting down in an alley, having a head massage from a stunner, and drinking whiskey and eating ice cream at the same time ! He was kind enough to ask me if I wanted to join in I knew my wife would be walking down the same alley in a few minutes so made my excuses and left. He had the biggest gold chain I have ever seen.

well, legalising doesnt mean anything yet, look at New Jersey example, they legalised gambling, for example Pokerstars, but they all play in different player pool, same might be with Asia, they might legalise gambling but at the same time they might have something like Betfair.ch with different from global gambler pool
