  • Disgusted with Betfair

I want to vent some anger at Betfair, of all the years i have been trading and betting with them, last weeks site outage was unnacceptable. I was trading on a race and the outage happened 2 mins before the off! before i could realise what was happening i had no escape and lost £1000. After many complaints i asked them to close my account, and tried betdaq... as we all know liquidity isnt great so today, i decided to set up a new account with betfair - only for them to suspend my account mid-trade!! and i manage to lose £250!! yet again i complain and they say i cannot have 2 accounts. I explained that I have already closed an account and now I have registered a new account. But no, apparently I am supposed to call them an ask for my original account to be reactivated.

I have decided that I will make a big go at Betdaq I will not give Betfair anymore money I feel I have been robbed TWICE! I have got the IBAS involved and they are contacting Betfair, but seems a shot in the dark as Betfair hide behind small prints evil

You've certainly had some bad luck. I can't see Betfair being generous though. I've had internet outages and thus my trades have turned into bets - I didn't complain because they won (lays with big liabilities).

Good luck, but you're probably right when you say BF will hide behind their small print.

With regards to last saturdays outage, they said they could clearly see i was trading and also see I had open bets waiting to close trades, however they said as per their terms + cond. They never guarentee their service will be available to place bets LOL. I notice they have a sports book now, they should give more protection to traders as they make millions for that business.

My apologies, I thought the internet outage was with you. When the outage is Betfair's fault then they should show some consideration for traders. I have laid at 10.5 for £100, but if I lost £950 due to a BF error I would be livid.

Void all bets on races affected by outages might be fairer, but then they wouldn't make any commission.

ye I was fuming, well I still am after whats happened today as well. If it was internet outage then thats my responsibility, but for the site to go 2 mins before the race off leaving me with no out. Its a sickener. BF even say they know I was trading and conceive that my I would have more almost certainly traded out, but because their terms say they do not guarentee availability. Outrageous

I think it was Temujin who said he has BF on speed-dial especially for these type of emergencies. I guess these risks, even though they are out of out control, have to be taken into account. BF are infamous for freezing up on a saturday with so much footie and racing.

They can't void all race affected by the outage can they? Say I place a £100 bet at 50-1 and it wins and I placed the bet an hour before the outage? Would I be happy to learn that because traders were unable to close position all bets were void? no I obviously wouldnt. I feel for the OP but unfortunately these are the risks we take as traders.

true, betfair should be accountable or even offer some sort of credit that can only be used through Betfair. With them having a sportsbook as well it seems as though they are saying the exchange is for traders and sports book for outright bets.

Also lost all March profit at that evil Saturday... more than 1K!! If it was not bad enough lost another 80% of my bankroll because of crap internet connection this week (happened before, I know I am a fool )... I feel your pain trust me! Long hard work awaits me but for now I am too mad to even think about it... will take a couple weeks off and will only trade again when I'm sure my internet connection is up to the job :/

Considering buying a 4G pen and then going to decide between a load balancing router or Conectify (just came across it and seems a good option) Anyone know it?

When betfair cock up somebody will suffer and somebody will benefit. I have had 2 lays which went on to lose so I made more than expected. I have Betfair's number in my phone now and would ring them to close all positions asap.

It would be good if they had an 'in case of Betfair outage' option in My Account where you could select what you'd like to do with open bets should Betfair freeze up. Do bets set with 'take start price' actually take the start price when Betfair is on the blink?

                      Hi all,

I have always been a a bit baffled why betfair have remained the only exchange.I think the reason for its perpetuity is the fact that bookmakers hedge off millions every day.
The big attraction for the small punter is the fact that betfair make it possible to lay. However the vast majority of laying systems are rendered useless because of the 5% commission.
I have always used BF as a betting tool(combined with betdaq). It is rare indeed that I get better prices on Betdaq but dealing in the sharp end of the market I have on many occasions had better prices with online bookmakers(lads and will hill in particular) than I have on BF or BD.
But betfair are a law unto themselves and I make a point of never leaving more than a few thousand in the account.
                      arty

Have you considered Tethering - it won't be particularly fast (about 1.5 up and 0.6 down) but it should help get you out of a jam.

Is it possible to call betfair when their site is blocked ?! Can I make a bet when there is outage via phone ?

I haven't, but I've read somewhere on this forum that someone rang them and asked them to close all open trades due to an outage of some sort.
