  • Internet Options For The Toy

    Hi Guys,

Need some advice please. Moving house in a couple of weeks and cannot get the Broadband installed for another 2.5 weeks after moving in. As I do this full time to earn a crust, this is obviously not good and I was wondering what my options are in terms of being able to access the toy? Could I use a dongle or would that cost fortunes in terms of download, as I have no idea how much data I download on an average 4-5 hour day using the toy? We are moving to a new area where we do not know anybody who would kindly let me sit in their house to use their WIFI !!

If anybody could kindly help an old timer like myself, that would be very much appreciated. Thanks and best wishes.

Is it too late to cancel your request for broadband ? I would advise looking around to find another provider who can "turn you on" quicker.

Alternatively, gather all your family's smartphones together and use their 3G connections using tethering. This could be supplemented with the use of a dongle.

My Internet provider is Zen Internet. Not the cheapest but positively outstanding customer service. They must be good to put up with me for the last eleven years.

Recently, I've had cause to open dialogue with my provider, BT, and they were quite amenable to striking a deal - so phoning your provider and asking them not to charge for the downtime is an option.

With regards to dongles, I have used a Vodafone, pay as you go, dongle, but signal quality was location dependent. In central London, the dongle would receive 3G+, but moving around in the suburbs the signal would often switch to 2G.

I believe 4G is now available but I have absolutely no idea what the deals are, indeed if a temporary solution is available.
