  • Concentration

    Hi all,

I'm sure i'm not the only one who suffers from the blurred screen from when you lose focus and just find yourself staring at the numbers but what do you do to combat the inevitable slip in concentration that occurs as the afternoon passes? I usually have a great start but the later it gets the more mistakes i make. Some days i get away with it and others, it costs me, like today.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

I find I improve as the afternoon goes on and I settle down. If I do have a bad run a break to compose myself again helps. Sometimes though your mind just won't stay on it - take a day off.

If I feel out of sync during a day's trading I mute the racing commentary and turn on some tunes. Dance music at 300 bpm or more can increase metabolism and awareness. Chewing gum also increases brain activity.

But if my screen was becoming blurred and I felt jaded I'd walk away from the computer, have a cup of tea and consider my frame of mind. There's always another race
I often use big words that I don't fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

          Cheers guys,

I don't get to trade that often so i like to try and get as much in as possible. I like the idea of high bpm tunes and chewing gum. Although i'll probably look like i did when i was 18, chewing my face off at an all nighter

          Thanks again.

I have a strict fag break rule every 4 races, after every big win, and after every big loss.

I look through the racecard at the beginning of the day and plan what I intend to do in each race. If I can't plan it in advance, I class it as a 'cup of tea trade' and plan to take a break. It stops me from doing something stupid for the sake of it, or sitting there thinking that I need to click the mouse 'cos I haven't done it for a while. It also means I get a few breaks.

I periodically walk away even if it's for only 10 minutes, usually focus on something other than a computer or tv screen - and play a game of pool.
