  • Greatest Movies of All Time

I would like to start a new thread that everyone can join in and enjoy. It's has the title "Greatest Movies of All Time" It can be absolutely any film past or present. The only criteria that is required is that it means something to you and will stay in your mind for all time.

Here is my first offering starring the man himself Jack Nicholson. He is my favourite male actor by far and many of my offerings will be from his films.

    Enjoy!

Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

May be not the best movie, but I will never forget how excited I was when in 1977 (i was six or seven years old) my father took me with him to the cinema.

And a classic from Billy Wilder and JAmes Cagney, comedy and parody of capitalism, comunism, americans, russians, germans... Trepidant pace, specially in the second half of the movie.

No need to be the best in the eyes of others Torrenzo. As long as it is memorable to you.

      Good stuff.

Classic hide behind the sofa suspense. Freddy Kruger doesn't even come close to matching this monster.

Blimey, only four posts in and my first choice has already gone. Cheers Public Enemy, saved me the effort really.

I'm finding that the 70s films are some of the first to come to mind for me, here's one for the 'they don't make 'em like they used to' category - although to be fair 'they never used to make 'em like this in the first place' also applies.

          "With extreme prejudice"

The most celebrated sequence is at 1:30. And if you're at all interested in this film then I recommend 'Hearts of Darkness' as the best documentary ever on the making of a film.
          What's the rumpus?

Watched this a few weeks ago and found it very interesting. Got it out the DVD shop along with a German and a Mandarin film. The shop assistant looked at me as if I was some kind of alien. "Do you know these 3 films are in foreign languages?" Course I do, that's why I chose them.

Two of the best non English speaking films I've seen are La Haine and City of God.

Set against the backdrop of a raging API Solutions war 3 men go on the trail of a grave laden with gold. One needs it to pay the vendor fees for his new free software product The Toy, one to pay for some much needed facial reconstuction and the other to pay for the recent shortfall in Ebook sales & course caused by a recent drought of places and people from which he can spam his wares from and too................

City of God excellent film Scalper.

Haven't seen La Haine, I will put it on my "must see" list. Ta!

If you get a chance, have a look at this one. Roberto Succo - based on a true story of the Italian serial killer.

                            The Fortune

Interesting thread and thanks to Mickey Pearce for starting it.

Seeing as Mickey mentioned Jack Nicholson as his favourite male actor, I just wondered if anybody has seen Nicholson in the little known film, The Fortune.

It was directed by Mike Nichols and made in 1975.

Nicholson and Warren Beatty are two hustlers in 1920's America, and hatch a plan to murder a wealthy heiress and inherit her fortune.

As far as I'm concerned, I've never rated Beatty as a good actor. However, his wooden acting is tailor-made for his part in The Fortune and only makes his role all the funnier.

I think it's the funniest film Nicholson has made, and if you ever get a chance to see it, do so. There is a situation aboard a plane which is insane. I choked on my drink when I saw it. You can see it here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jq7FV9MSNyk). It's a 10 minute clip, but they get to the airport at the 5:28 minute mark if you want to skip ahead.

So there's the ramble. Whenever I mention this film people always shake their head and say they don't know of it. To date, I haven't met one person who says they've seen it.

Anybody here had the pleasure of seeing this rare classic?

If not, and you're in the mood for a chuckle or two, you can't go wrong if you dig around for this. It's not the greatest movie of all time, but as far as wacky comedies go I would have to say it earns a "greatness" rating.

Memento is another v good film IMO. Guy Pearce actually plays leading actor in it (yes the guy from Neighbours lol), but seriously it's a darn good film.
Just in case you were put off with the mention of a neighbours actor being the leading guy then it was directed by Christopher Nolan.
Definatly worth a watch though as it's very cleverly done.
