  • International response times thread

OK PLease reply if you have traded or currently trade from a country which was none uk and add your response time and your internet speed if possible.

Thought it would be a good idea to try and get a knowledgebase of response times and where it was viable to trade from.

I'll start us off. I've traded from Guernsey recently in a hotel with a 4Mb Speed through their wireless and got about 100ms response. Slower than the uk but perfectly tradeable.

Both are ADSL and using a wireless LAN connection to the router.

        Spain is JazzTel 6Mb ADSL

Switzerland is Swisscom or Cablecom and I think it's 10Mb ADSL, I can check when I'm back there next month.

Spain, north and south, roughly 100 ms

On Gran Canaria it was a bit slower, maybe 200ms, though the 'upload' rate was very fast, something like 40

I did it from France as well but cant remember the numbers, was perfectly tradeable though, not sure how much trouble you'd have connecting from there now

            Hi Jimrobo

Madrid Spain (city center), my office connection think is ADSL 8 Megabytes with wire connection to the router.

Have just opened 15:30 Musselburgh Horserace and TT shows values between 93 and 125, with some peaks of 140 ms.

I have a non UK account, so going through Malta might take a little bit more

At home I have ADSL 6 Mb. telefonica and values should not be much more higher, can check if you like later.

excellent stuff. Always good to see where it is possible to trade from. I am in Berlin either next month or october for a long weekend so I will update here with the response times and connection I manage to find

No idea who would want to trade from here, but for record:
                  Lithuania(Vilnius) 10Mbps, response: 62-93ms

Is that 15-40ms what the VPS gets to Betfair or what you get to the VPS and then there is the VPS response time on top?

Checked my Switzerland connection, and it is with Cablecom, and is on cable not ADSL.

Low VPS pings are only any good if you are running a bot on the VPS, otherwise you still have to add the ping between your PC and the VPS on top of whatever ping the VPS has to betfair.

Latvia - Lattelecom 200Mbit fiber optic connection
I'm getting about 130ms in the evening, but keep in mind that my Geek Toy is running in a VirtualBox + there is some other traffic in the meantime.

People should be more concerned about packet loss rather than ping/response times.

Sounds great. How much would it cost to rent somewhere cheap and safe not far from the beach? Just worked out that the afternoon racing would start from 10AM this time of year and finish about 2PM leaving the rest of the day free to get up to whatever lunacy you want, how perfect is that?!

I reckon Peewee will be about as clear as mud on that question. I'm wondering what benefit there would be to running a UK acount from abroad via a VPN and bypassing Malta?

That is assuming that the server you connect to is based on your current IP address and not account address!?!
