  • Video of a newbie trading the greyhounds

Hi all, I've been playing around with the toy for a few weeks now, and am currently focusing on trading the greyhounds. So far I've managed to net a loss trading greyhounds and horses, so today I decided to record my fail and ask for any advice or pointers of where I'm going wrong or what I could do to improve my results. As it happens I didn't make a loss today, but here's the video anyway: http://www.screencast.com/t/MTVhODVlY

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Cheers.
PS - Thank you Mr Geek for this awesome software :Thanks

My advice to you is to start with stakes about 2€ because if you use less it take more time do place the bet.

Did you ever tried hedging another way ? Following text is taken from Toy's help file..

An alternative way to hedge your position on a selection is to click at the price you wish to hedge, on
the Profit/Loss column if the Profit/Loss is set to Hedged Profit.

I hope you know what I mean This way is faster if u ask me.....as I can see in your video you're doing hedge using 2 clicks and have to move your mouse to the top of the ladder....

I'd echo this for anyone trading and if your software does level profit offsets it's worth setting the stakes slightly higher than £2 just so any offsets are also over the £2 limit. Not only will it ensure your bets get in the market quicker but you'll also avoid any threatening emails from betfair for abusing the under £2 limit

Thanks, I'll try that. I'm still experimenting and testing different configurations.

Ah ok, not quite sure what level profit offsets are, is this something that's built into The Toy? I'll definitely readjust my stakes accordingly.

Check out this excellent thread by Scumbag trader http://www.geekstoy.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2012. I've been trying to develop my own 'Edge', and have found it very helpful to watch videos of other people trading. There are a few videos on YouTube worth watching.

My bandwidth at screencast has run out, so I've uploaded the video to Vimeo. http://vimeo.com/13677213

I might get round to doing some more videos later on this week.

              :Thumbs

Very good advice. Especially for in play markets with a delay.

When learning new markets or testing, I set mine to £2.50 to keep the delay as it is on bigger stakes.

If you're playing a 5 second delay market and your hedge bet is under £2, you're looking at a 15 second delay before it gets matched. £2.50 and it'll probably still only be 5 seconds

                  What software for the video?

Hi Firepunt. Interesting session - how did you record it? I've read posts advising to do this and then look later for mistakes!

Yeah I use Camtasia as I found Camstudio a bit fiddly.
