  • Betdaq fight back

Minnows Betdaq are trying their usual weapon, to fight back against the Betfair monster!

Comm only 2.5 % all sports all summer. If we can sometimes get same price, will be with

them, if price within 'striking range' will request it. Should be ok for some markt's.

Don't understand why no-one (big money venture capitolists) can mount a challenge to BF?

As totaly dominant mkt leaders, BF can do as they please with us............

PS the new Government are looking at exchanges, David Zefman, their chief advisor on gambling law,

has written a review, findings are along the lines of those spending all day, trading heavy are effectively,

conducting a business, and have responsibilities, in terms of taxation. evil

      UK TRADERS PUBLIC ENEMY No.1
      evil

      .

      John Zeffman

.....eggs at the ready if you spot him {John Prescott stylee} link

The government are conducting reviews in every possible avenue at the moment to extract more and more revenue. Hopefully they will look at trading as too complicated to mess about with (taxing losses etc)....and bugger off:Thumbs

Zeffman is head of gambling at Olwang, they advise loads of firms. Last time he was moaning about traders not paying levy when he was acting for the BHA. They're also advisors for Betdaq so no doubt he'll argue against any charges depending on who's paying at the time.

          Hi Leon,
was in an article by Barry Dennis in Sun paper 2 or 3 saturdays ago.

Tried to copy/paste it on here, but failed, can e-mail it to you, if you like.

I didn't read the article but isn't his argument that some users should technically be described as bookmakers and should pay duty and the levy as opposed to the fact that they should be taxed?

Surely it would be too hard to "tax". I mean along with trading, people do different things. I mean I have about 3 strategies on the go at any one time, alot of my turnover is dedicated to pure gambling. Either way, I am sure that with it being seen as a legitimate business, it would be reasonably easy to claim alot of things anyway. Must have an up to date computer, multiple internet connections, phone lines, electricity, "office" rent, etc etc etc. Not to mention that most people trading lose anyway, although most don't lose enough to make a difference for the winners. Surely that would call for a few "business" trips to all the sporting events around the world. It is expected after all that a business trading on sports, must research such live events.

Considering Australia still don't allow online live sports betting, I think at least we are a long way away from such a thing. Sad to know though that maybe we will lose another country from tax free. Sure there would be an easy way around it though by introducing more strategies. Would be a massive headache to implement anyway I am sure.
The way I see it, most of the commission we are generating is paid in tax anyway. As far as I read, BF Australia aren't really making much yet setting up here, most going in expenses. So realistically, we are all paying tax anyway, just not directly. I mean would they rather me generate 30k tax in a year for them, or stop this and go on the dole and cost them 12 a year.
