Anyone use either of these services for watching sport or inplay trading?

Due to living in a conservation area I cant get a Sky dish and I seem to live on the only street in Brighton without fibre optics, so no Virgin.

I can get Sky player via internet with the sports packages, but I do love a bit of inplay football betting, but anyone have ideas of a delay on them?

From what I have heard there are very few virgins in Brighton. I have Sky Player but do not use it as the delay has been too much. Some attribute my lack of success to a poor broadband connection. It seems that you are suffering that problem as well .

Or just put it up in a discret place - chances are no one will notice and after a certain period I believe you can keep it. If all else fails apply for planning permission - I live in a conservation area and plenty of people have just put dishes up and others have bothered to get PP - I won't say which I did

Cant put it on the back of the house as it faces the wrong direction.

The council round here are absolutely militant about these things, so dont fancy risking trying to hide it. Plus the lease holder of the building isnt the most cheerful of people. Thanks for the suggestions anyways.

Getting the net installed next week, so will report back on the delay.

If you go for a walk down your local canal you will no doubt come across boats that have portable sky dishes - have a word with them and they will let you know what is needed but if your garden isnt full of huge tress you might have the line of site required and you could just pop the dish on a stand in the garden - I have seen people do this before but I doubt you want it in your front garden - it might even be possible to have it inside in fornt of a window but I wouldn't know

Do some searching online and you'll find there are solutions for people in your situation - alternatives to dishes which can pick up the signals. In a hypermarket in france I remember seeing a small thing you just stick onto your outside wall which can pick up satellite signals (for which you'd normally need a bigger dish than for sky).... years ago I remember seeing an ad for something called a 'sweety' which was like a tube which you actually keep INSIDE your house and which can pick up sat signals through the window when pointing in the righ direction. Have a look you'll be surprised at some of the solutuions out there
Tough times don't last. Tough people do.

Have they actually implemented the "no estate agent boards" ruling yet?
(i live in the same town so understand what you are saying )

                Regards

i have a mate who used this http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=217921 but without the "freeview reciever" that comes with it instead he hooks up his sky box.

Some roads deffo have this. Im in Cambridge Road, and I think a fair few streets round here have implemented it (Brunswick I think).

thanks for that Ron, just having a ganders now. I do have a small balcony, so perhaps can hide a small arial amongst some plants or something. So if it picks up freeview, it will pick up sky? Is my thinking right?

Leon- I dont have a garden as in a first floor flat! But thanks for the suggestion.

                    cheers all!

No, Sky requires a dish if you do not have cable. Freeview works with old type aerials and new decoders for digital signals.

Right, been looking at the Cubsat digicube: http://www.digicams-uk.com/category20_1.htm after much browsing of google (dunno why I didnt try that first!)

Pricey, but could be worth it!

Think I will trial the Sky TV for a month (there's no minimum contract) and then go from there.

Very late with this but provided you are facing the right direction you could put your mini dish inside! as long as its got a clear view of the sky from the window it should work ok!
