Im currently on virgin 20MB,it tends to be okay most of the time, but come weekends and some evenings can be erratic.
My friend who works in IT said that the 50MB is better as it isnt throttled but i have still heard bad things about it!
    What is everyone else using?

Thats true mate justa trial at the moment, but hopefully those poor buggers that live miles from the nearest exchange and get terrible API response times might be in treat or atleast a better service. Virgin 20 mb is what I am on too and have been with them for many years. I have to say I can probably count the number of times it has gone down on one hand, so in terms of reliability A* for Branson Pickle and his bunch of merry men...

However I have longed for an option locally that could give some real choice for me when it comes to ISP's and I'm hoping this is it !

Still the jury is out and we can but hope and wait and see..

I know about the 200mbit trials and being a BIGDownloader I find it apealing but not to the point where I'd pay through the nose for it! I doubt I could use up 200mb of bandwidth LOL ! I hope a price war of sorts errupts! as Unlimited 40meg dn and 10 mb up for £25.99 really undercuts virgin!

Pez you'll only get throttled if you go over your download allowance for the specified time period. Do your big downloads after 9pm and all will be well!

When things play up try http://speedtest.net/
              and http://www.pingtest.net/

I get these for my results using maidenhead as the test servers

Interesting reads here (don`t sound too good if you are in the sticks )

                  and here:
http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/...band/bd-p/50mb - plenty of problems with both services.

Hey dudes, am getting Virgin installed for TV & phone serives. Am eyeing up the 50MB line for the Internet but am a tad concerned as I haven't found many who trade with it.

If anyone on the forums uses Virgin to trade, would you mind posing a line or two in regards to how you would rate it & whether you would recommend it. Would be much appreciated

50Mb is exactly the same as 20Mb. You won;t see any different speeds with trading. They both use the same network all the 20Mb service does is throttle your router doen to 20Mb. Your ping is exactly the same for small amounts of data. And they both have sporadic routing issues.

Make sure you get your cash back - at the moment it is only £60 but often they have offers well over £100 sometimes around the £150 mark!

I'm like you Joker, I am on 20MB but get about 13-14MB, never seen hight than that. I use broadband speedtest zdnet site.
I like the results of that ping test, I'll try that later.
I think the virgin reliabilty is very good, it is in our area anyway.

the problem is routing issues to betfair so even when connecting to betfair is a nightmare and all over the place when you run the speedtests it shows you are getting a great connection.
