  • Mind and Body??

Ok so I was just sitting here and thinking about Leon the Vixen! remembering an old thread I found the below photo!

On a serious note how many traders FT or PT actually take good care of their fitness and health??

Lets face it sitting in front of a couple of monitors all day "your face being slowly irradiated" is not the healthiest of things to do!

also do you think if you did do more for your fitness would it help your trading ??

Healthy body, healthy mind, you are what you eat and all that jazz!!!!!!

I have to say keeping fit is quite important and helps with your trading a lot. I let it slip during the winter months but will be starting back with my running now the racing starts later.

Adam Heathcote was a big advocate of eating well and doing exercise as well if I remember rightly.

            Hope everyone is well!

I don't need to exercise anymore because I am old and have had my share of it. I eat very well as I have a diet of both western and Thai food and, as a special surprise, I had Mexican food for my tea yesterday, those little tortilla chip thingies with minced beef and cheese, baked in an oven and served with fresh home made salsa. Just a hint of chilli and chilled to add a touch of authenticity. A couple of bottles of Sol beer instead of my usual cup of tea made the day one to remember.
I eat loads and loads of vegetables which helps me to be very regular in my toilet habits. I "go" , like clockwork, every morning at 8.15. My only problem is that I don't get up until 8.30.

You have to make sure you're prepared mentally and pysically for the markets for sure. The fitter and happier you are in general then the easier this will be to acheive for sure. I think the most important thing is to get yourself ready and in the right state before you trade in your own way, its too competitve to go in half arsed. I did that on thursday when I was comtemplating taking the day off and made a right mess of things.

Ever since trading I've become facinated with how boxers prepare for fights. A week ago David Haye said how he wasn't quite at his maximum yet but had planned it so that come fight time he would be completely at his peak. Its the same with trading, only every day! Honestly in the mornings I'm like a zombie and useless at most things as I'm saving my energy for trading in the afternoon. Everyone has different ways of doing things but sometimes when I hear about people trading for 12 hours straight 5 different sports and then having a few bevvies that night only to do the same the next day I wonder how they can ever be their sharpest? Everyone is different but for me it would be impossible to be at my peak and I would make less £ for more work. Also, trading itself is something that can really take it out of you in many ways, mentally, psyically, emotionally etc so learning to manage yourself in these areas and finding what works best for you is a huge, and very neccessary challenge
Tough times don't last. Tough people do.

This is an interesting topic. I know that my life kind of revolves around trading at the moment, I think about it a lot, trade 4+ hours most days(not as much as some ppl, I know), dream about it sometimes. Its easy to get locked into a mindset where you are not fresh, and sitting in the same room all day every day, which is what I do as when I am not trading I am on my PC doing other things, you very quickly get stale, bored and trading on autopilot, which probably accounts for some of my results recently. So I need to find other interests that will take me away from my PC (), and definitely need to run around and have fun.

I have a personal trainer that comes round twice a week and I try and get to the gym at least 3 times on top of that. It definately does help

There's a great book called Seeing the Sunshine by Justin Langer the Australian Test cricketer which is about this subject.

Bearing in mind Test cricketers are highly thought of in Australia, in one chapter he mentions he started martial arts and, quote

"The lessons are about respect, concentration, discipline, perseverance, commitment and spirit." He goes on to say "not long after starting training I bowed to the mat a simple act of respect for the mat and the lesson to be taught. Before I knew what was happening I received a whack to the back of my head which sent me sprawling face down onto the mat.....I looked over my shoulder to see the master standing over me and asked what I'd done to deserve such a wake up call. Sternly he told me I had broken the code of respect by walking in front of him on the dojo floor."

If top sportsmen benefit from these lessons then us mere traders must get something from learning such things.
When I die and they lay me to rest,
I'm gonna get pissed with Georgie Best

This is not so bad, as it sounds, for you.
Actually this is another great skill of ninji.
