  • Trading Terminology?

As i'm new to this i'd like to ask you guys about appropriate name for your nifty trading moves. So far, rightly or wrongly i use.........

Scalping - lay low/back higher or vice versa little and often when price fluctuates.
Hoof - getting green just on one horse and not hedging it (ripped this off a well known paperback)
Dutch Hoof - as hoof but with 2 horses etc.
Hedge - press the magic button on TT to green out
Cheeky Hooks - lay a few/all horses in-play at 3ish and the cancel bets when near finish hoping to hook a few losers and hope the eventual winner made a late move after all lays cancelled (also ripped off well known paperback but renamed as original name is gash)

In the spirit of positivity can anyone throw anything extra into the mix? I did do a terminology search but nothing returned.

I think you'll find that only "scalping" and "hedging" are the terms you have mentioned which will figure often in trading on a forum like this.
The idea of trading is to try to maximise profit and I cannot see many traders I have met using either of the "hoof" methods you name above. Having gained an advantage, they would hedge to secure the profit rather than go on to gamble that advantage away if the horse (s) failed to win.
The "cheeky" hooks" bet seems to rely greatly on getting bets matched late in a race and this is always a risky business, and riskier still if you have many runners to cope with. What some people do is to lay every runner at a low price e.g. 1.5 in the hope of a close finish and the bet being matched on two or more horses thus securing an overall profit.
The only common expression I can think of is "laying the draw". Do a search on this forum and read the relevant threads. This "tactic" seems to work best when two football teams seem evenly matched.
My advice to you as you begin is to trade in only one market at a time and use low stakes until you get a feel of the market.
    My golden rules are :
    (i) never lay anything at more than odds of over 1.75 until you are experienced and know what you are doing ( you will see others laying at much bigger odds and making a profit but this is not for you yet ),
(ii) never let a bet go in-play i.e. do not risk your whole stake and be prepared to take smaller losses rather than risk the market turning in your favour to give you a profit.
Trading should be fun as well as profitable. You can expect to lose money as part of your learning curve, just be careful you do not lose too much in the beginning.
    Best of luck !

                              Pump and Dump

Inflate the worth of a poor company--Pump--Then sell it off to some numpty--Dump--.
Nah that would never work…Would it?
