  • Pre-race Dogs trading challenge!!

Ok... so i havn't seen so many fresh challenges going on lately in this section of the forum and after having done a few in the past i love a challenge... plus this was a little side goal i set myself a little while ago and never really did for any longer than a day or two.....

Aim - to trade the dogs for as much cash as possible..... daily target of £20 before i trade the horses.

    Criteria -

How many races? it dosen't matter..... £20 or more is the target for every day i trade.
Stakes? if you've tried to trade the dogs you will know they are very unliquid markets and to use much more than £100 can be very dangerous (just my opinion) So for me a max stake on the dogs is £150, generally ill use 10, 20, 50.
How many days will i trade? who know's i often take extra days off to do things that i like... 5 days a week max usually, that said i might do a bit more this week.

A bit of a fun challenge but ill try to update each day i trade, not seen one for the dogs on here for a long time so something a bit different to read maybe all comments welcome, should be fun!

Off to an ok start, not quite on the target but consistent none the less, dont know why maybe its a big dogs betting day? but the markets felt pretty stable compared to the average morning looking at the dogs....

Bloody hell. Good luck. For anything other than RP televised meets, I'll only ever use £2 stakes deciding that they're totally manipulated or corrupt markets.

Thanks d70ejk.... i think they are jsut very unliquid and you have to wait untill the last 2 minutes earliest before you even attempt to trade them, sometimes i dont enter until the last 30 seconds! it can be done though, the telivised meets are alot easier though.

more dogs today zzzzzz...... remember why i get bored with it with 7 mins between a race, mind its good for something to do inbetween tidying up at home.

One thing i always seem to notice on the dogs is how obvious it is when they are backed/layed on the exchange hard. I tend to think in the cases where i see a short priced fav not being backed its worth laying it so i may start doing that with my green... its not proven statistically as i wouldnt know where to start but after all if anything is going to go wrong its in a dogs race!
Knocked out on the bend, slow start etc imo short priced favs are even more of a risk on the dogs than anywhere else so if its not backed and below 2.5 then its got to be a good price to lay.... anyone got any statistics to back anything like this up?

Not a bad morning on the dogs today, even if it did feel like watching paint dry....

Caught a screamer of a move in the 12.27 on the fav Tyrur Oscar 3.1 into 2.5.... just a pitty i didnt put a bigger stake on!!

                Hi C,

I came across one very specific instance of market manipulation, on the dogs, last November/ December, which occurred immediately the afternoon horse racing finished, which might be worth watching out for, when the nights draw in.

Favourites were "knocked out" 5 ticks about a minute and a half from the off and held there by the provision of a large lay sum. This was done repeatedly for a period of two hours, or so.

Of course the counter strategy is obvious, even to me, but it is well worth being aware that this may well happen again,

                cheers, MC

                    Hey MC

sounds interesting and at times i spot things i also think are questionable! ill have to look out for that one althuogh i dont really treat the dogs too seriously it can be nice for a little extra on the side!

Shadow.... you could say that lol

Hi Chuck. It's good to see you doing another challenge. Do you trade the dogs the same way as the horses, or are you confident trading any market given some time to understand its behaviour?

Hey, thanks... its always good to do something to keep the boredom away! ... i trade the dogs slightly different to the horses, mainly because i have to with the market conditions although things do relate for sure.

Given the time and understanding the situation i recon anything fluid enough to trade pre event i can manage fine.

Yesterday - no time for the dogs as i was out all morning.

Today - had an optitians appointment as the glasses i was prescribed earlier in the year are incorrect!! keep getting headaches which hasn't really helped the workflow at times.... anyway here's what i had time for this morning.

From what i see this morning in a couple of the races there was some odd behaviour like you mentioned MC.

Looks like a good saturday afternoon card today too with the nagg's.

Ok so this is a little too easy so im gonna up it a notch to £35 a morning off the dogs to keep it interesting, hopefully without doing many more markets.

I didnt set a time limit on the inital post but i think ill keep it to 10 trading days.

                              Let's Have It!

Come on then Chuck! evil I'm going to hijack your thread and join in with your dogs challenge! (hope you don't mind?). As you have mentioned the amount of horse racing dwindles significantly from September onwards and we have to find other ways of making some cash. It can be too easy to down tools after the last race and ignore the few hours of available dog racing ... so hopefully this will give me a bit of drive to stick on the PC in an attempt to nick a few quid.

I'm not in your league but I'll try and keep up as best as possible and hopefully not make too much of a pratt of myself in the process!

BF have opened a market as to who will win the most ... you're already 1.01!

                              Dave.
