Hi All,
Hope every one is OK. My first post, I've tried searching for the answer, without any luck I'm afraid. I have downloaded the .msi three times, run the installer countless times, uninstalled many times, tried different installation folders, but when I click on the TT program shortcut button, all I get is this tiny rectangle stating that TT is looking for updates. Then a dialogue box stating that TT has encountered a problem and needs to close. I am running XP Pro SP3 on a machine designed to use Vista. (Have other probs too, lots ) I have downloaded with both IE7, and FireFox. Shame, it looks great too. Best regards Skelly |

Try uninstalling & reinstalling the .NET frameworks & Adobe { Acrobat } Reader on your PC.

Hi TG
Tried to install .net 2.0. Failed repeatedly. Downloaded MS Cleanup Utility, cleared out .net remnants, and downloaded .net framework 2.0. Installed fine. The machine wanted to install .net 3 et cetera and associated service packs, but failed repeatedly. Gave up. Then it installed .net 1.1 over .net 2.0 ????? Then a service pack for .net 1.1 I don't get it.... When computer was new, running Vista, Acrobat Reader would not run, (amongst other things), does today though...Hooray !!! Add remove programs in Control Panel does not run either... Still, nor does TT after uninstalling and reinstalling... Bugger Thanks for your suggestions. Best regards Skelly |

Actually thinking about it I had a similar problem with a another application I wanted to install and test. Pretty sure I was on XP at the time.. I ended up needing to re-install the OS, as even trying to drag and drop the new files into the "i think" cabinet files didn't work! Still try installing 3.5 and see if that works. If not please ensure you save all you stuff before re-installing your OS!

Hi Shergar,
Tried to install .net 3.5 and service packs continuously, failed repeatedly. Thought the problem was 'Windows Power Shell' but it might not be. Now IE stoped working... Tried to re-install XP, but got confused which partition to use, nearly cocked it all up, again..... Installed, but I could not remember the name I gave the PC when I first got it, and it would not let me run certain programs nor view some files. On top of that, I'm having extreme trouble finding drivers for XP when the hardware was designed to run Vista. Tried to go back to Vista, couldn't. Downloaded all the "dotnetfx.exe" files I could find and run them. These are supposed to install .net 1.0 and 2.0 and service packs. They do not work because of 'Windows Powershell' which I cannot uninstall because of service pack 3 which is installed with XP pro from CD... Thanks everyone for trying. I did make a recover DVD of Vista when I first got the machine, I might go down that route. Best wishes Skelly |

That's what I would do too, it's good practice to clean the OS every 6 months or so anyway, you'll notice your system running much faster.

Also google SIW (system information for windows) its free and will tell you what hardware you have, you can then go and get the necessary drivers from the manufacs sites I found Lan drivers problematic sometimes, and sound drivers can go and Fuque themselves ! ![]() to reset cmos you'll need to find the jumpers on the main board, normally close to the battery, mine is labelled CLRTC (clear real time clock) I ahd to turn power off and reverse jumpers, this reset the bios and got rid of the Chasis compromised fatal error I was getting, all I did was install a new PSU!! What a palava! ![]()

Thanks Guys,,,
Add remove programs now does not work in control panel...and most of the tray icons have disappeared now, even though I have re-enabled them. I've gone into safe mode with and without command prompt, still cannot get access to some files, going in as administrator too. I've got no choice, well I have, I can try to re-install Vista from the recovery DVD I made when I first got the bleeding thing, or a fresh install of XP pro after formatting or deleting the partitions. It's a Sony Vaio VGN-NR32L laptop, when I strip a laptop, I usually have quite a few screws left over after I've put it all back together. I will have to copy all the software install files for the programs I have 'collected' over the years. Driver detective actually makes a CD with the drivers one needs when changing OS... which is nice, but I wouldn't have bought it had I known about 'DriverEasy'. Again, thanks guys. Best wishes Skelly |

The machine is sooooooo slow running Vista, even with a Pentium Dual Core.
I cannot change the layouts, colours of window bars, there is so much going on in the background (other than the anti-virus, anti-malware, Windows defender et cetera) that the user has no control of (goodness knows what Windows 7 is like, I've heard some reports, but no personal experience though). Outlook Express was replaced with Windows Mail which has now been replaced with Windows Live Mail, but when I installed XP Pro, Outlook Express could not open the email messages received whilst running Vista, so they were lost. I still cannot open them now running Vista again. There is more I keep finding, but I don't want to be boring. If you are happy with it, I'm pleased. Maybe your system worked well from the start. Mine did not. Lots of the pre-installed software was un-responsive which may have prejudiced me slightly, who knows.... Best wishes David |

I bought a 2Gb ram Toshiba running Vista and found it to be slower than my 1Gb Acer which ran XP. Truth is, Vista is rubbish.
I am waiting for my wife's machine to conk out and I will get rid of Vista on the Toshiba and try Windows 7 instead. If that isn't fast I'll put XP on it. It seems that you need to start again from scratch with your machine. The Toy is brilliant. |

Skellyd.
There are a few things you can do to speed up vista. Delete any programs you dont need - they might be allocated memory even if not used. A lot of stuff running in the background, you dont need. For instance, Vista defrags your hard drive after every boot by default. Disable that in task schedular as it is of little benefit to defrag so often. Also , in the run box from the start menu, type msconfig and click OK. Go through the list of programs under the start up tab and disable any you don't need or use. Run task manager and see what proccesses are using the most resources and see if you actually need them. Run only ms messenger if you need it, get rid of ms live mail, disable anything to do with windows media center ( you can still run when needed), Disable file indexing in control panel - don't need it. Tip. Always export to a file, save to CD, email settings, messages before reinstalling the OS. Another tip. if you have a memory stick of 1 or 2 gig, plug it in and run Ready Boost. Vista can use this as ram, not quite as fast as physical, but definite improvement. Another tip. Turn off visual effects in diplay properties, pretty, but hungry. Best tip. Buy Windows 7, (40 quid if u have kids) it's a lot quicker. Hope this helps

If it helps anyone else I had the same problem as skellyd running XP SP3, TT would not load just saying "looking for updates" then the "TT has encountered a problem and has to close " message. I resolved this by checking the Windows update site and finding I needed two updates for .Net framework, after installing these TT ran fine, I did not need to re-install TT. I think the .Net updates do not install automatically because they are classed as not essential so it may be an idea to advise new users to check they are up to date.
